Medical grade II SAD light with 10,000 lux.

Category:

Have you ever felt tired or depressed in late autumn or winter? Did you know that a lack of sunlight could cause seasonal affective disorder (SAD)?

This depressive illness is caused by shortened daylight hours, and even if you might underestimate it, the truth is that it can lead to severe depression unless managed effectively.

The easiest way to deal with SAD is by helping your body produce sufficient melatonin. That’s where the Beurer TL 30 SAD Light steps in. Developed to simulate sunlight, the lamp impresses with high lumen output, and it can effectively help you combat all seasonal affective disorder symptoms. Read on to find out more about it.

The Good

High Lumen Output

Undeniably, the Beurer TL’s most significant feature is its high lumen output. This lamp delivers up to 10,000 lux – an output that leads to therapeutic effects when used for as little as half an hour each day. Remember, though, that the max lumen output is only achieved when you’re sitting at a distance of maximum 10-15 centimetres from the lamp.

You can still achieve therapeutic effects even if you’re sitting at a higher distance, but you’ll have to let the light on for longer.

Travel-Ready

The seasonal affective disorder is associated with winter, but few people know that SAD can affect people in any season if environmental changes occur. For instance, if you’re travelling to the southern hemisphere during the summer months, you could be affected by SAD.

Furthermore, you might have to travel during the winter months, too. Whatever the circumstance, a portable SAD light will come in handy.

The Beurer TL 30 is compact, lightweight, and easy to fit in a carry-on. You can take it with you on your journeys and enjoy the therapeutic effects wherever you are – for even more convenience; the lamp comes with its own travel pouch.

UV-Free LEDs

One of the main concerns you might have when picking a SAD light is whether or not it emits ultraviolet light. To simulate sunlight, some manufacturers use UV LEDs indeed. This isn’t the case with the Beurer TL 30, though.

Manufactured in Germany, the lamp respects all European regulations, and the LEDs used filter any UV radiation, making it super-safe to use by adults as well as kids.

Adjustable Stand

Another thing we like about this lamp is the possibility to place it in either portrait or landscape mode. The adjustable stand allows for various arrangements, and it can be easily moved to suit your placement needs. You won’t be able to mount it on a well – unless you decide to use a frame – but it is an excellent lamp to keep on your desk, bedside table, or even on a shelf.

The Bad

Short Power Cord

While the Beurer TL 30 is fantastic overall, its power cord is annoyingly short. You’ll either need to have a wall socket nearby or use an extension cord. The solutions are simple, but using an extension cord could ruin your interior décor or be inconvenient sometimes.

That said, this lamp could be a great choice if you’re planning to place it on a desk or bedside table, as wall outlets are usually within easy reach.

Relatively Short LED Life

Another thing that could break the deal is the overall lifespan of the LEDs. The lamp works brilliantly, but the bulbs tend to burn out in a season or two. Considering that you can’t replace them, this is undeniably a downside.

On the other hand, the lamp is much more affordable compared to similar options from other brands. Thus, it would still be a worthy investment.

Our Verdict

Overall, the Beurer TL 30 is a promising therapy lamp. It might not be dimmable, nor does it have any fancy modes, but it comes at a more than attractive price point compared to its peers. We would have liked a longer power cord as well as a bigger on/off button, but these are small annoyances rather than real issues.

What we do appreciate is the high lumen output. Indeed, finding a lamp so bright in this price range is near impossible. True, the bulb might not last forever, but you’ll still get plenty of hours for the money.

We also like that it’s lightweight, it comes with a pouch, and is travel-ready. Affordable, effective, and easy to use, it is undoubtedly one of the best SAD lights on the market.
