There are two types of buffers to regulate and maintain the blood pH value to within a very narrow range of 7.38 and 7.41. One is an acid buffer, carbonic acid and the other is an alkaline buffer, bicarbonate, usually potassium bicarbonate or sodium bicarbonate. An infusion of alkaline or acid solution does not change the pH value of the blood; what changes is the amount of alkaline buffer or acid buffer.  As long as the human body is alive, these buffers maintain a blood pH value constant.  When it is said that the body becomes acidic in the aging process, it means that the alkaline buffer, bicarbonate, is decreasing and the acid buffer is increasing.

Potassium and sodium are stronger alkaline minerals than calcium and magnesium. The major constituent elements of Bicarb-Balance are potassium and sodium. Potassium and sodium can release calcium in stones and arthritis. In the body, potassium finds its way to the inside of cells while sodium stays on the outside. Potassium can neutralize lactic acid build-up in the muscles of athletes for better endurance.

Compared to Alkalife, Bicarb-Balance is independent of the stomach's condition in delivering bicarbonates to the blood. For example, if the stomach is in an over-acidic state, drinking alkaline water may not elevate the stomach pH significantly to produce hydrochloric acid, meaning no bicarbonate will be produced. In addition, some people are unable to produce hydrochloric acid and need to take hydrochloric acid pills. Therefore, we cannot expect their stomach to produce bicarbonates. For them, Bicarb-Balance will work more effectively.

It is not recommended to use blood thinners in conjunction with Bicarb-Balance.
