Beta Carotene (Dunaliella Salina)

Dunaliella salina is a single celled oceanic algae and provides a natural source of carotenoids, of which, the most widely studied is beta carotene. Carotenoids are a group of more than seven hundred fat-soluble organic pigments and have many beneficial biological functions. These nutrients may support immune function as they are powerful free-radical scavengers, protecting cells and tissues from the damaging effects of oxidation. Humans are incapable of synthesising carotenoids and must obtain them through their diet.

Beta carotene is a precursor of vitamin A, it is a safer way to supplement vitamin A, as it is converted to this vitamin in the liver and intestines when the body requires it. Vitamin A is essential for a healthy immune system and the normal growth and reproduction of cellular tissues. It is also important for healthy bones, teeth, eyes, hair, skin and to maintain the mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive and urinary tract.
