Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) and Your Health

We are the First Generation to Face an EMF World.

Human life has gradually evolved over two billion years in an environment devoid of AC magnetic fields. Man-made AC fields differ greatly from the earth's magnetic field, as the earth's current is (DC) direct current.

The evidence is persuasive that man-made AC fields can interact with or stress our human cells to the point where adverse reactions result.

The negative effects of exposure to EMF appear to arise slowly over a long period of time. The EMF problem has been categorized as a new form of pollution as consequential as air and water pollution. It has also been likened to the newly-discovered hazards of asbestos and cigarette smoking. The EMF dilemma will grow - and at a compounding rate. Fortunately, public awareness of EMF is also growing.

What is EMF?

EMF stands for the ElectroMagnetic Field that is a by-product of generating electricity. It is a fact of our modern life, something our ancestors never had to contend with - and not enough is known about how it interacts with our body's subtle and complex metabolism. EMF is sometimes called EMR, for ElectroMagnetic Radiation.

We can observe how natural elements and living matter are affected by exposure to EMF in laboratory experiments: growth patterns can be disrupted, the flow of atoms can be altered - and a growing number of experts believe EMF is harmful to the human body.

These experts believe EMF forces our cells to expend more energy to contend with EMF interference. This can result in fatigue at the cellular level, which at worst causes a gradual drain on our energy levels and leads to difficult to diagnose syndromes with mysterious symptoms - at best it simply causes stress to the system.

"Manmade" electricity - created and distributed via power grids and electrical wires - is the most common source of power in the world, and is a relatively recent development. From its creation at the power plant to its delivery via your hair dryer, computer, or alarm clock, the web of electricity - and the web of EMF - surround us.

Every "wired" home, commercial building, and office is awash in interpenetrating, competing electromagnetic fields. Sadly, our new wireless technology and lifestyle is not free from EMF!

Protect Yourself from Harmful EMF

Your body possesses a remarkable ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments. But when your body is chronically bombarded by man-made EMF (electromagnetic fields), its innate intelligence and energy can become weakened and knocked "out of phase."

You know why the airline captain tells you to turn off your electronic devices during take off and landing? The EMF generated by your cell phone and laptop wreak havoc on the plane's navigational system. And they wreak havoc on yours as well.

Some scientists estimate that we are now daily exposed to 100 million times the EMF radiation of our grandparents. Research shows that these fields have a significant disruptive effect on the natural energy levels of your body, triggering stress responses. Both alternative and traditional doctors report that EMF is a co-factor in increasing daily stress levels and stress, as we know can impair the body's natural ability to heal.

What are the Common Sources of EMF?

Electricity is the most common source of power throughout the world because it is easily generated and transmitted to where it is needed. As electricity moves through wires and machines, it produces EMF. The power grids of nations consist of electrical generation, transmission and distribution facilities. As electricity is sent along the wires of the power grid, EMF is created. In cities, primary electric power distribution lines run across the top of utility poles and feed secondary transformers, which are then connected to the electric power meters of buildings. Once electricity is delivered to the user, it continues to produce EMF throughout the wiring systems of offices, homes, schools, factories and other structures. The appliances and electrical equipment connected to these wiring systems produce their own EMF as well.

In the workplace the generators of EMF include computers, cell phones, fax machines, copy machines, fluorescent lights, printers, scanners, telephone (PBX) switching systems, electrical instruments, motors and other electrical devices.

In homes, the immediate sources of EMF include electric blankets, electric water bed heaters, hairdryers, electric shavers, television sets, stereo systems, air conditioners, fluorescent lights, electric can openers, telephone answering machines, cell and portable phones, refrigerators, blenders, portable heaters, clothes washers and dryers, coffee makers, vacuum cleaners, toasters, and microwave ovens.

EMF is not only produced by electricity moving through wires or machines, but it is the nature of all television and satellite transmissions, as well as radio and microwave communication systems, including cell phones.

Any modern home or office environment in the world will be saturated by a variety of interpenetrating EMF from a variety of sources. The nature of EMF is very complex and the number of EMF sources are rapidly growing. Unfortunately, the entire effect of multiple electromagnetic fields on human physiology is not completely understood.

T here are, however, frequencies that are good for the body, and because we can use electromagnetic waves to penetrate at a cellular level, we can use the beneficial frequencies to enhance the immune system and even heal fractures.

When Are EMFs Dangerous?

After more than 25 years of intensive study, the health and safety conscious Swedish government has established a safety limit for exposure to ELF magnetic field at 2.5 mG, and VLF magnetic fields at only 0.25 mG. The Swedish standard is generally accepted throughout the world.

What this possibly means is that if someone consistently experiences exposure, which exceeds the standard, that person could be at risk for developing health problems.

Even though the controversy of conflicting scientific studies persists, it seems strange that cigarettes and alcohol are packaged with warnings we already know about, and the sodium, fat, and cholesterol content of foods must appear on the labels, but no one tells you that the average hairdryer, vacuum, or electric can opener can emit an amazing 300mG or more!

Simple ways to detect EMF pollution

Find the worst EMF offenders in your home and office - check them out!

You have to know where the sources of EMF are in your everyday world and how strong these sources are. Is there wiring in the wall behind your bed that you don't know about? How much EMF are you and your family getting from the power lines in the street? Get a meter, share it with your friends, and test the areas where you spend time.

Diminish your exposure to the EMFs you find.

Remember that EMFs go right through doors and walls.

Determine how far you must stay away from the EMF emitters in your home and workplace to achieve less than 2.5 mG of exposure... the microwave oven, the alarm clock, the computer, and so on.

Rearrange your furniture (especially the beds, desks, and couches where you spend the most time) away from heaters, wiring, and fluorescent lights, electric doorbells, and other EMF "hot spots".

What EMF problems lurk in your home?

When we first tried the TriField 50Hz Meter® we found a number of "hot spots" (our microwave oven, for example, was blasting us from across the room!). By moving a few desks, and turning the microwave to face away from where we work, we eliminated most of the dangerous hot spots easily. At home you may move a bed so that the head is not in a hot spot while you sleep.

The TriField allows you to measure electrical, magnetic, radio and microwave signals and take steps to minimize your exposure to dangerous EMF levels.

This is the most accurate, least expensive device we have found that does this, and it is so simple to use. Just turn the dial to one of the three settings, and walk around your home or office. 2-3 milligauss is the limit proposed by many health and engineering professionals. A red band on the meter shows you when this limit is reached. The TriField Meter combines all the features needed for fast, accurate measurement of EMF pollution. This is the only meter that combines measurement capability of electric, magnetic, radio and microwave frequencies.

The TriField meter has three separate sensors allowing independent measurement of magnetic fields, electric fields and RF or radio / microwave fields. It can help you detect defective equipment, determine safer distances for operating equipment and test better shields around your equipment:

The TriField 50Hz Meter® : the only meter which combines magnetic, electric and radio / microwave detectors in one package. This meter combines all these unique features with affordable pricing for fast, reliable measurements of electromagnetic pollution:

  • Continuous sampling analog readout;
  • Omni-directional electric & magnetic sensitivity;
  • Two separate scales for magnetic field readings;

•  Hand-held portability and simplicity

TriField 50Hz  Meter £150 plus p&p

The only commercially available electromagnetic field meter that also measures microwaves and radiowaves is the TriField Meter.
